Goals and Objectives

The main goal of the project is to transfer all the advantages of the Transient Hot-Wire technique to an industrial instrument, which will be designed to overcome the existing impedances that did not allow its wide commercial use until now and provide the market with accurate material property data.

The new instrument will consist of three distinct parts: a hot wire sensor, an electronic circuit and finite element software. All these three parts will be operated together through a laptop computer and the whole device will be portable and easy to operate.

The objectives of the project are:

  1. To design two new sensors, one for fluids and one for solids. 
  2. To design a portable electronic circuit operated by a laptop computer, capable of registering resistance changes over a time period 20 μs to 10 s. 
  3. To design and implement user friendly finite element simulation software to calculate the thermal conductivity value of the material.
